We live in a time where “self-care” has become a trend where morning routines and skincare rituals fill our feeds, and everyone seems to have the perfect routine down to a science. From ice rollers and serums to color coded digital planners and “everything showers,” it can feel like there’s a right way to care for yourself.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good everything shower too, but real self-care doesn’t have to look like what we see online. And truthfully, it shouldn’t.

Many of us are busy, working women who don’t necessarily want to wake up any earlier than we have to. But here’s the thing: caring for ourselves, in mind, body, and spirit, is less about elaborate routines and more about giving ourselves what we need to feel whole.

Redefining Self Care in the Age of Influence

True self-care starts with presence. It’s not just bubble baths and journaling. It’s about pausing long enough to ask: What do I need today to be well?

Sometimes that looks like prayer or a few quiet minutes with God before the world wakes up. Other days, it’s making breakfast instead of skipping it, a cup of tea before bed, or simply taking a moment to breathe before continuing on with the day.

When we constantly throw ourselves into the flow of the day without tending to our spirit first, or choose to skip self-care activities, we end up pouring from an empty cup—and over time, that leads to exhaustion and self neglect.

Self care is about alignment, making space to reconnect with what grounds us before the day pulls us in a dozen directions. Part of finding a routine that works for you is understanding what you need, and keeping it simple so that you can consistently show up for yourself.

Flexibility Is the Key to Consistency

Here’s a little truth I’ve learned: consistency doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly every day. It means showing up for yourself in whatever way you can.

You don’t have to check every box or complete an hour-long routine to take care of yourself. What matters most is that you make space for the things that nourish you physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Ask yourself:

  • What can I do to nourish my mind, body, and spirit today?
  • What small things bring me peace or energy?
  • How can I make those things fit my real life, not someone else’s?

Some days it may look like reading the verse of the day in the Bible app, doing a 5-minute breathing exercise, or squeezing in a quick 10-minute stretch. Other days, it might be taking time to meal prep for the week or choosing to go to bed earlier.

Pro Tip: Create a self care lists with activities for the days when you’re short on time and for when you have more space to slow down. Keep it somewhere visible.

Self Care That Fits You

There will always be trendy ways to “self-care,” but it’s not one size fits all. What works for someone else might not fit your lifestyle, personality, or season of life and that’s okay.

The things you do for self care should feel authentic to you. If something feels forced, it’s okay to try something else. Start small, keep it simple, and build from there.

Over time, you’ll begin to see how much your intentional effort matters, whether it’s getting more rest, learning new rhythms, growing spiritually, or developing a mindset that nurtures peace over perfection.

Self Care With Intention

Simplifying your selfcare routine isn’t about doing less, it’s about doing what matters most. When you start showing up for yourself with grace and intention, everything else begins to align.

You’ll find that peace becomes more natural, balance becomes more attainable, and caring for yourself becomes a non-negotiable act of love.
